In July 1996 a Student Focus Project identified information processes, such
as timetabling, as issues contributing to uncertainties with student enrolment.
Students perceived that, by having better information about their units, and
reliable information about when and where classes would be held in the coming
semester, they could make firmer enrolment decisions.
Since then, there have been significant advancements in timetabling processes
at QUT:
- University timetabling is integrated and centrally coordinated
- University timetabling is automated and uses a product called Syllabus Plus
- Students have access to early, accurate timetable information:
- Common timelines and procedures are used for Timetable preparation culminating
in publication in Week 11 of the preceding semester.
- A timetable change process is in place.
- Faculties and Schools are aware of the importance of class timetables
and the need for planning for course offerings and resources used in timetabling
(staff, locations, service units, combined degrees)
- There is unrestricted WWW access to the Timetable for current and potential
students on the QUT Home Page.
- There is a timetabling
policy in the MOPP
Each semester the Campus Services-Timetabling team and timetabling staff in
Faculties and Schools work together to collect information, enter it into the
timetabling system, and prepare the timetable.
